Our Approach

The Creative Nest Way

Everything we do at Creative Nest Nursery is born out of a love of learning. As passionate educators, our ultimate goal is to create positive early learning experiences for each and every child, nurturing their natural inquisitiveness for years to come.

Our enriched Early Years curriculum and thoughtfully-designed Reggio Emilia inspired nursery allow each child to influence their learning journey in ways that are unique to them. This is their “creative nest”; a safe, comfortable place where they have the confidence and support they need to spread their wings. We believe that in inviting the world into our nursery, our children become more aware of what lies beyond, and the potential that lies within each one of them.

Areas of learning based on the EYFS:

Our Little Wings Programme

We enrich the EYFS curriculum with elements of the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, with an emphasis on acquiring real-life skills.

Our Little Wings Programme encourages our children to directly engage with the world around them. This is done through cooking, gardening and numerous other physical and creative activities, made possible by our wide range of engaging spaces. As our children move from one room to the next, they quickly take on different roles and ways of approaching the learning experience. From our toddler-sized kitchen and organic vegetable patch to our Imagination Station and Kids’ Gymboree, every corner of our nursery supports both child-directed and teacher-initiated activities. At Creative Nest Nursery, no two days are the same.

The Reggio Emilia Approach at Creative Nest Nursery

At Creative Nest Nursery we are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and we believe in Loris Malaguzzi’s vision and pedagogical philosophy for children’s learning, as described in the following quotes:

“We must credit the child with enormous potential and the children must feel that trust. The teacher must give up all his preconceived notions and accept the child as a co-constructor.”

Trauma Informed Centre

At Creative Nest we believe that education is a tandem between developing both the child’s intellectual, personal as well as social skills. This is extremely important as it highlights the need to incorporate deliberate teachings, which promotes mindfulness and social wellbeing in a person just as much as conceptual advancement. As such, Creative Nest is a Trauma-Informed centre that operates within this framework.

At the heart of our Trauma-Informed care approach is this belief that each child’s journey is sacred and deserving of compassion, understanding and holistic support. All children benefit from trauma informed schools. A trauma informed school is not designed to only meet the needs of children affected by trauma but rather meet the physio social and emotional needs of all children. It removes the barrier to learning and empowers children to unlock their innate resiliency, release overwhelm and return to healthy development.

OUR PRE FS

Through trainings, hands-on tools and a complete school buy-in our educators are able to recognise and attend to emotional pain expressed via behaviour, connect with children unconditionally and co-regulate with children. Children cannot learn when they are in a survival state.  Teachers who are trauma informed are trained to recognize the different stress responses, and have a tool box of different tools to help their students develop their autonomic flexibility and move out of the stress response easily and in a shorter amount of time.

For children to thrive in school, they need to be able to function beyond a survival level. This not only benefits the child and the classroom dynamics in the short run; these are life skills that will benefit children in all aspects of their future.  Children who feel safe and seen by their caregivers develop healthy attachments and this impacts all areas of their life such as self-worth, self-esteem, relationships, career and health.
